What Exactly is Huna?
Huna is not Hawaiian. It is a belief that came long before Hawaii, almost 35,000 years ago. Huna is a part of the original teachings of the peoples of ancient Polynesia, a continent which no longer exists. All that remains physically of that land are the mountain peaks of the island chain we know and love as Hawaii. Hawaii has always been an epicenter for love and hapiness but how did the people there come to be that way? The spiritual leaders that existed in ancient times were known as kahunas.
IKE
(ee-kay)
The world is what you think it is.
Ike allows you to pay special attention to your PERCEPTION of the world. My world is different than your world, and that creates a completely different reality for the both of us. If you are aware of how you are viewing the world, then you have the ability to change it. You’d be surprised how much changes when you begin to look at your thoughts, you begin to change your beliefs, you begin to change your experience. YOUR WORLD = YOUR MINDSET
KALA
(kulla)
There are no limits.
Kala is to focus on the idea that we all have a CONNECTION to each other in some way, shape, or form. As strange as it is to think, every action and thought you have influences everything else around you. This, then, allows for the fact that there are infinite possibilities (just look at history, hello). Kala teaches that when you allow yourself to expand and open your mind, you will naturally seek out new pathways, and ultimately change what is possible. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY
MAKIA
(Mu-kee-a)
Energy Flows Where Attention Goes
Makia is all about the idea of where your attention is in FOCUS. When you focus your physical, mental and emotional attention, not only does all of your energy channel into what you are focusing on, but you will also attract energy from the world around you, which increases the effect of whatever you are focusing on. Ever heard of the Law of Attraction? Thats what we’re talking about. All aboard what we like to call “the Manifestation Station” because thats the wave to be on if you want it all. Every little moment- where is your intention? how is your breath? are you able to let go of distractions clouding what you really want? We dont wan’t to hear about what isn’t working for you, that stuff doesnt matter here. What matters is what you want. YOU GET WHAT YOU FOCUS ON
MANAWA
(Ma-nah-wa)
Now is the moment of power
Mana is that all power exists in the NOW. Too often we wait for better circumstances to that first step. Let’s face it- there is so much time wasted waiting for that time to come. This is the only moment where you plant seeds for the future and where you harvest the crops of the past. This is the only moment is where you can create a change. No need to fear it, we love the change (the good & the bad). This moment is the only one that matters because it is the only one in your control. NOW IS THE TIME
ALOHA
(A-low-ha)
To love is to be happy with
Aloha is to choose to ACCEPT who & what you choose in your life, as it comes. That is, after all, what love really is. No changing, no wishing, no judging. It’s actually the anti: to accept, to be happy with, to create harmony. This is the aloha spirit that Hawaii is so loved for. When we try to control, we forget the fact that everyone is basically wanting the same thing from each other- to be loved and accepted. Isn’t that what you want? Offering to love & accept others allows a connection so we get that sweet spot of happy only others can bring out in us. LOVE = ACCEPTANCE = HAPPINESS
MANA
(Ma-na)
All power comes from within
Mana recognizes that we all have this odd little life-force within that gives us the POWER to somehow exist and navigate huge, crazy world. Look at what we have created as humans, look at what Earth has created in nature. Sometimes we tend to think that we are somehow at a disadvantage from others, this can make us feel powerless. But we must remember the leaders in our lives are really no different. All the power for any transformation and evolution, can only come from within, from your mana. Look to the stories of others, nothing outside of you can give it to you. To believe that we already have everything we need to create anything we want in life is a scary thought. However, it is the only mentality to have to gain everything and more. IT ALL COMES FROM YOU
PONO
(Po-no)
Effectiveness is the measure of truth
Pono helps us decided what is TRUE. Here’s the thing though- we all are living in our own reality. Remember that your world is different than my world? So, what is true is completely up to you. To know what is true for you then, you must pay attention to what is most effective in your life. This gives you a good idea of your truth. And since all teachings and philosophies are made up, you can choose to use what works for you. What is true beyond you is what is right. We like to think of the Golden Rule when we think of pono, but sing your own song and dance your own dance and (we promise) you will find a truth that serves you & only you. WHAT IS RIGHT ALWAYS WINS
Huna was originally called Ho’omana. Ho’o means “to make” and Mana means “life force”. To make life force translates a simply to empowerment. Huna is about empowerment, showing others a way to really figure out what it means to “live your best life”. Huna is a set of seven principles to create a life that is undoubtedly one you want to be living. Huna doesn’t subscribe to any system, and religion, and one ideology of what happiness truly looks like, that definition is completely up to you. It is said, that living by these principles is the “secret” to life. No, not roundabout way to tell you to “be true to yourself”. It is seen as a standard that connects you physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to the mindset to live the way you really want. Sounds simple, right? Not quite, to live a life that is principe based is just a tad difficult. Just look at “Self-Help” section at Barnes & Noble. These principles make the complex difficult, and allows us to take a good look at the story we tell ourselves. When you’re ready to take a look at where your story is headed, these principles prompt us to ask the hard questions, to make the big decisions, to choose our next favorite chapter in the story.
